GREENHOUSE FAQs

1. WHAT TYPE OF WOOD IS USED?

The floor and substructure are built with pressure-treated pine. All of the wood above the floor is Southern Yellow Pine. All of the wood is pre-dipped in an Oil-Based Stain Sealer before construction.

2. CAN I GET A DIFFERENT WOOD OTHER THAN PINE?

No, not at this time.

3. WHAT KIND OF PLASTIC IS USED TO COVER THE GREENHOUSE?

Our standard greenhouses are covered with a single-wall, corrugated poly-carbonate. It is made specifically for Greenhouses. It’s UV Coated to help protect against discoloring and cracking.

4. HOW LONG DOES THE PLASTIC LAST?

Many factors will contribute to the plastics longevity. However, we have had greenhouses on the market for over 7 yrs now and we have replaced very few roofs. So at this time we can safely estimate 7-10 yrs.

For specific warranty information please refer to the manufactures website… Amerilux.com

5. CAN I GET TWIN-WALL INSTEAD OF SINGLE WALL?

Yes. Our greenhouses now come standard with 4mm Twin-Wall Poly Carbonate, and we also offer the optional 8mm Twin-Wall for an additional fee. Call us for specific pricing.

6. HOW DOES THE PLASTIC HOLD UP IN THE WIND?

GREAT! We pop-rivet all the panels together and attach it with screws at every other valley in the corrugation. We load the Greenhouses on trailers (fully exposed) and travel to the delivery destination at 60-65 mph with no problems.

7. CAN I PUT THE GREENHOUSE ON THE GROUND?

Yes, many of our customers place the Greenhouse directly on the ground in a level location. However, many others also pour a concrete slab, or put down a perimeter of thin concrete blocks or paver stones and fill the inside with some type of gravel. Any of these options can be purchased very inexpensively. However, you may have other ideas that are suitable for your needs. The sky is the limit..

8. HOW DO I HEAT THE GREENHOUSE?

We recommend an electric, Oil-filled, radiator type heater. They are excellent and can be purchased for $39.95-$79.95 at any hardware store. Most of them have thermostat controls and work extremely well for this size greenhouse. Two may be needed on larger sizes. But from our experience and feedback from customers, this style of Heater uses very little energy and doesn’t add much to your electric bill. However, other customers use propane or natural gas. Use whatever works best for you.

9. WHAT SIZE PLANTING BENCH/SHELF SHOULD I GET?

The shelves add tremendous value to your greenhouse. They are framed in and attached to the sidewalls. They should be used for smaller to medium size plants and seedlings. The larger, heavier, and taller plants should be placed on the floor. The shelves are 21 inches wide and are approx 30 inches off the floor....leaving you ample space to place plants under the shelves, as well. If you plan on placing larger, taller plants in the greenhouse, then you don’t want to fill the greenhouse up with shelves all the way around. However, it is totally up to the customer. We do have many customers that put shelves all the way down both sides and across the back. It totally depends on what the customer plans on putting in the greenhouse. Planting shelves can be purchased for $100 per 8ft section. We highly recommend some shelves because they add tremendous value and functionality to the Greenhouse.

10. CAN I HANG HANGING BASKETS INSIDE?

Absolutely. There is plenty of space inside to hang baskets from various loactions.

11. IS THE GREENHOUSE STAINED?

Yes. We spent 6 months developing the best stain possible for this application. Our special oil-based formulated stain is a proprietary blend developed by Wood Defender.

12. CAN I GET A DIFFERENT COLOR STAIN OR A PAINTED VERSION?

No. Not at this time. We only offer brown or gray.

13. HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE GREENHOUSE BE RE-STAINED?

The stain comes with a 2 year warranty. We recommend re-staining every 2-3 yrs to keep the highest quality look possible.

14. IS THE GREENHOUSE SCREWED OR NAILED TOGETHER?

We use a combination of nails and screws when framing the Greenhouse. So the entire frame of the greenhouse is screwed together with 5in and 3 inch screws, as well as 3 inch nails throughout. The trim and siding are popped on with 15 gauge nails, which is totally adequate for trim work. The bottom line is the Greenhouses are extremely solid.

15. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THE GREENHOUSE WHEN I PLACE MY ORDER?

We can typically deliver a Greenhouse within 7-10 days….sometimes sooner. However, occasionally we may get swamped with orders and the delivery time could be 3-4 weeks. Either way, we will communicate with you so you are fully aware of the time-frame. Also, MOST customers need 2-3 weeks to get the ground leveled, pour a slab, or place footings or blocks. We have never had a problem with customers being upset over delivery times. However, our goal is to deliver ASAP!

17. WHAT ARE THE PAYMENT TERMS?

We require a 10% deposit and the balance is paid on delivery. We accept all forms of payment. Most customers pay the deposit over the phone with a credit card or debit card. We will not start a greenhouse without the 10% down payment. We also have a Lease to Own program for those customers that would prefer to make payments.

18. WHAT TYPE OF WARRANTY DO YOU OFFER?

Two year bumper to bumper workmanship warranty.
